If your doctor has told you that it's a good idea for you to use a nebulizer for breathing treatments, then you could be dreading using this machine. After all, you might be envisioning that it will be terribly uncomfortable. You may have even used the nebulizer before and been rather uncomfortable during the process. It's true that using a nebulizer can sometimes be uncomfortable and can be hard to get used to. If you follow these tips, however, you can make it a whole lot more comfortable for yourself.

1. Make Sure the Mask Fits Properly

First of all, if the mask on your nebulizer does not fit properly, then you will probably be uncomfortable throughout your entire breathing treatment. Plus, you might not get the same treatment that you would if the mask fit properly. Have your doctor or another medical professional show you how to put the mask on. Let him or her know if the mask isn't comfortable; then, it can be adjusted if necessary.

2. Entertain Yourself

Even though breathing treatments on nebulizers generally only last for a few minutes, it's easy to get bored when you're just sitting there. If you can entertain yourself during your breathing treatment, then you might find that you are a lot more comfortable and a lot less bored. Watching your favorite show on TV, reading a book or magazine or playing games on your phone or computer are all good options that can help you take your mind off of the treatment and prevent yourself from getting bored.

3. Take a Break When Necessary

You may find that at times you will feel dizzy or otherwise uncomfortable while using your nebulizer. If this is the case, remove the mask, turn off the machine and take a break for a few minutes. You can then try turning the machine back on to finish your treatment. Experiencing this every once in a while is fairly common, but if you find yourself experiencing it frequently, even if you have been using your machine for quite some time, then it's definitely something that you should bring up to your doctor
